Russia’s one and only backpacker bus

The Beetroot can be a trip on it’s own, an add-on to a larger trans-Siberian trip or perhaps a little taster of Russia to help you decide that the trans-Siberian really is the trip for you. During the summer months the trip is microbus only but during the considerably colder winter months some sections are covered by rail making the distances covered possible in the heavy snow and ice.

The trip is as close to truly independent travel as you can get in Russia with the visa restrictions being as they still are – restrictive! Whilst on the bus you get the use of a buddy to help you get the most out of the trip, although they are not tour guides ands you will not be dragged from site to site wearing identical coloured fluorescent hats – that’s not just your nightmare…it’s ours too!

Accommodation is 2* hotel throughout the trip always with private WC/shower (however these can sometimes be shared between two rooms) or traditional Russian wood cabins during the summer trips.

Trip routes:

All of the trips include Moscow and St Petersburg - and in winter (except for our Xmas Extra-Special!) those are the only destinations. In Spring and Autumn the destinations are Moscow & St Pete's again, plus Novgorod - Russia's oldest city. In our main summer season there are three different itineraries on offer, featuring either St Pete's-Novgorod-Moscow PLUS a one-night summer-camp stay, or Moscow, Sergiev-Posad & Kostroma and St Pete's PLUS a 2-night summer camp stay.
