Vaccination, Visa and Weather Information

Vaccinations
Yellow Fever is compulsory and you will need the International Certificate of Vaccination as proof of the vaccination. You will be asked to produce this at various borders. To be recommended are vaccinations against Typhoid, Tetanus, Meningitis & Hepatitis. Immunity to Polio may well need to be boosted. You will also need to guard against Malaria - this involves a regime of taking preventative tablets and avoiding being bitten in the first place. There is much debate as to the effectiveness of certain anti-malaria drugs and their possible side-effects. You should seek specialist advice, but Global Village strongly recommend that you take them. But there is much truth in that old adage that prevention is better than cure: This means taking anti-mosquito-attack steps seriously eg covering legs, ankles, feet and arms at dusk, using proper insect repellents (Minimum of DEET 50%) especially at dusk, sleeping under a mosquito net (if sleeping under the stars) or in the tents provided. Mosquitoes are by no means a problem everywhere, but its better to be prepared.

Climate and Visas
Visa requirements vary between the individual countries through which we travel and because of your nationality. In general obtaining a visa is straight forward but the requirements do change. Our recommendation is to ask your travel agent to help you when you book your trip with us. We have found http://www.projectvisa.com to be a comprehensive information source so check before you arrive.
Most of our African safari passengers require visas for some of the countries that we travel through. However we can obtain most of these visas en route. The costs listed below are just a guide; please note that prices and conditions can change anytime without notice (We will try and inform you but things can change quickly in Africa, and the first we here about it is when you’re at the border!).
Also please ensure that you bring American Dollars to pay for your visas. Also be aware that you will need at least one blank page in your passport for each country you enter, which must be valid for at least 12 months. If you have dual nationality you can only use one passport.

Kenya
Visas
Tourist visas are currently US$20 (for a 7 day transit visa) or US$50 (for a 30 day tourist visa) and are issued on arrival for British, Australians, New Zealanders and South Africans. You will need a valid yellow fever certificate and an onward ticket to show immigration on arrival. Americans and Canadians should check with the embassy before travel.
Climate
Kenya generally has excellent weather, with warm sunny days, cool evenings. Two rainy seasons occur - March to May and October to November. Days may still be sunny and warm during these rainy seasons.

Uganda
Visas
At present all nationalities require visas. We obtain these on the border for most European nationalities, British, Australian and New Zealanders costing US$30. Americans and Canadians should check with the embassy before travel.
Climate
The sequence of weather and climate around the year is similar to that described for Kenya. Much of Uganda, however, is rather wetter than Kenya. This is because of the influence of Lake Victoria, an important local source of atmospheric moisture, and thunderstorms; in addition, the west of the country is often influenced by moist southwesterly winds bringing rains from the Congo.

Tanzania
Visas
Visas are obtained on the border for most EU nationalities, British, Canadians, American, New Zealand & Australians currently costing US$50. South African require a visas costing US$60. Swiss & Brazilians must get a visa before they travel. You will also need a valid Yellow Fever certificate to visit Zanzibar.
Climate
The climate is tropical and coastal areas are hot and humid. The rainy season lasts from March to June. The central plateau is dry and arid. The northwestern highlands are cool and temperate and the rainy season here lasts from November to December and February to May.

Mozambique
Visas
All nationalities require a visa. We can obtain a transit visa on route or on the border for US$60 so it is not necessary to have this visa before travelling.
Climate
Mozambique has a tropical to subtropical climate, with a hot rainy season from October to February and a warm dry season from June to September.

Zambia
Visas
A day visa can usually be arranged locally at no cost.
Climate
Zambia is warm all year round, but has three distinct seasons. Between December and April the weather is hot and wet; from May to August it is cooler and dry; between September and November conditions are hot and dry. Average summer temperatures range between 77°F to 95°F (25°C to 35°C), while in winter the variation increases ranging from 43°F to 75°F (6°C to 24°C).

Zimbabwe
Visas
At present most European nationalities and Australians and New Zealanders require an entry visa, but this is easily purchased on the border. The visa costs US$30 for a single entry and US$50 for a double entry. United Kingdom and Ireland passport holders require a visa costing US$55. Visas for Canadians are US$65. There is also a departure tax of US$30 if you are flying out of Zimbabwe.
Climate
Tropical; moderated by altitude; rainy season (November to March

Malawi, Botswana, Namibia, Lesotho and South Africa
